Project Description

Brizes Park is steeped in history, originally built as a moated house in 1498 by Thomas Bryce, the site is home to one of the oldest recorded moated forts in the country. The property has undergone several remodels throughout the centuries and was once the weekend retreat of Sir Winston Churchill. It even served as the home of the Honourable Simon Rodney, one of the founders of the Boy Scout movement, in 1949. Fast forward to today, and Brizes Park has transformed into a residential development consisting of 36 homes, including 10 luxury apartments. The picturesque site is surrounded by a beautiful village, local pubs, and Alec’s restaurant.

The task was to renovate the existing historic building into flats while constructing new build properties within the grounds. The goal was to maintain the integrity and charm of the original structure while incorporating modern amenities.

Why Classic Brick?

Classic Brick was chosen for this project due to the unique characteristics of the original property, which dates back over 500 years. Matching the brickwork to the historical structure was a critical factor, and Classic Brick provided a cost-effective solution that satisfied both the client and the planners.

The planners were initially presented with various brick options, but it was Classic Brick’s Rural Multi range that stood out. The wide array of colours we offered allowed us to find the perfect blend that respected the heritage of the building while ensuring it met modern building standards. Our ability to deliver consistent lead times, especially during a time of general brick shortages, played a significant role in the project’s smooth progression.

Unique Benefits Provided

Classic Brick’s ability to match the varying shades required for a centuries-old structure was one of the project’s standout successes. Our Rural Multi range offered a perfect blend of colours, which helped maintain the character of the original building. Our lead times were reliable, which helped avoid delays, even when supply chains were under pressure.

Our long-standing relationship with the Director, Paul Warner, ensured open communication and a mutual understanding of project needs. This familiarity allowed us to work together efficiently, adapting to any changes or requirements as they arose.
